Hernandina®

Description

Mutation of the Clementina Fina variety to have originated in Picassent (Valencia). The tree is vigorous and round shaped, with relatively fragile dark-coloured bark and no thorns. Branches tend to grow vertically. Highly viable pollen. Parthenocarpic and self-incompatible variety.

The fruit is medium in size and slightly flat. Vivid orange rind that is fine and easy to peel. Juicy pulp of high quality. Practically seedless when pollination does not occur.

Internal ripening occurs almost at the same time as in the Clementina Fina variety, however external maturation or colouring takes place about two months later. Relatively unaffected by rainfall. A suitable variety for regions without early harvests and with low risk of severe frost.

Agronomic remarks

Vulnerable to fruit-drop in the cold, especially if grafted onto Citrange. Tends towards alternate harvests. Fruit’s olour change is late, which means the rind stays in good condition for longer although the acidity level too low at the end of the harvest period
