Description

Mutation of the Washington variety to have originated in Venezuela. Vigorous tree with some thorns in the more vigorous branches. Its size and growth are very similar to the Washington Navel tree.

The flowers lack pollen and the fruit has a navel, just like the rest of the varieties in the Navel group.

The fruit is also very similar to the Washington Navel variety in terms of colour and form, except the juice of the Cara Cara variety tends to have a lower maturity index due to the higher content of total acids. A difference between the Washington fruit and the Cara Cara fruit is the colour of the pulp, which is reddish in tone in the latter.

Agronomic remarks

The fruit is more acidic than the Washington variety. It’s quite frequent that some buds revert the mutation and part of the fruit may not feature the internal anthocyanin colouring.
